Every Photographer makes gear choices based on several factors. Here is some information on the gear I use when traveling or on a shoot…

My Gear

  • Canon EOS R

When I decided to purchase my camera in 2019-2020, I landed on the EOS R as the most pro camera that I could afford, while still being full-frame mirrorless. I have been happy with the performance of the camera overall, however, the lack of 3rd party lens support on the RF mount is a drawback. I will look to upgrade my camera to make better use of the technology jumps since the R was released.

  • Canon AE-1 Program

I got this as a graduation present and to test the waters with Film. Honestly, this camera is amazing and opened the door to a whole new way of thinking about the creative process and camera technologies.

  • Canon Demi EE17

When I was about to go on a recent trip, I wanted to find a way to both extend my rolls of film, while having something a bit more compact. I did a ton of research into half-frame cameras and found a great deal on the Canon Demi EE17. So far this camera has really surprised me, while pushing to 72 shots per roll of film as well.

  • Sigma EF 18-35mm f1.8 Art

If this lens was not an APS-C lens it might be one of the best lenses on the market. I have had a great time using this lens, with the exception of needing a costly repair last year, due to a fault in the focus motor. Shooting with crop glass on a full-frame camera has its resolution downsides, however, this is still one of my favorite lenses.

  • Sigma EF 70mm f2.8 Macro Art

Primarily bought this lens for camera scanning film since it has a 1:1 macro ratio, but I have also ended up using it in a variety of other ways as well. Macro has been a fun addition to my lineup.

  • Sigma EF 100-400mm f5.6-6.3 Contemporary

This is the lens I go to for all of my shots needing a bit of reach. Astrophotography, planes, birds, you name it. I have had no issues with the lens and it is easily my second favorite lens currently in my arsenal.

  • Canon RF 50mm f1.8

This lens is great in all the ways that non-L glass can be. It doesn’t have fancy features but it makes up for that with a compact footprint, which makes it easy to pack for travel. I haven’t had any major complaints or issues with the lens.

  • Canon RF 24-105mm f4.6-

This is hands-down my least utilized lens. It struggles with light, is not particularly sharp, and leaves you wanting more. It is a kit lens so I did not have extremely high expectations for the performance but I very often leave this lens behind. Recently I found it useful in a studio setting with more artificially controlled light sources.

  • Canon FD 50mm f1.4 SSC

What a lens, this lens is sharp and produces such great bokeh. I purchased this to utilize with my AE-1 Program and I have been very happy with it overall. Additionally, it works well adapted to my EOS R, giving a nice vintage glass feel to images.

  • Canon nFD 28mm f2.8

This is actually the newest lens in my setup, and as of the writing of this section, I have not had a chance to test it out yet. Hoping for some good weather soon!

  • Canon nFD 70-210mm f4 Macro

Great lens for when I need a bit of extra reach, not quite as sharp as the 50mm f1.4 obviously but still a great addition to the setup.

  • Canon nFD 35-70mm f3.5-4.5 Macro

This was recently purchased alongside the 28mm f2.8, so as of now it has not been tested out.

  • Canon RF to EF Adaptor

Unfortunately more of a requirement as a RF mount user than I would like it to be. I have had no issues with the mount, but do wish I had options to reduce my reliance on that without switching camera brands.

  • Fotodiox Pro FD to RF Adaptor

Got this adaptor in order to make use of my growing collection of vintage lenses with my RF mount camera. Seems to work well, and mount fits tight.

  • LumeCube RGB Panel Pro

Love this light overall, has a wide range of settings and colors. It is small, and I think in the near future I will need larger light options. The only downfall is the screen on the back cracked while traveling and now can’t be read easily. The good thing is LumeCube has a pretty good application that I can connect to and make fine adjustments without the screen

  • Ulanzi RGB Light bar

This light surprised me honestly. I didn’t have high expectations since it was relatively cheap and I found it randomly at a store in Taiwan. I find it is very versatile and puts out a decent amount of light. The best part of this light is that is it still small enough to fit in a backpack.

  • Viltrox L116T LED Panel

A nice light, primarily purchased due to its high CRI value of 95+, so I could use it for my at-home camera scanning setup. It was recommended to me and was pretty affordable, which is a plus. Light works well so far.
